What is EUCROMA?
EUCROMA is an advanced level training program in cross-media production for gifted students from leading games and animation courses. All participants are carefully selected from established European educations and brought together in professionally configured games and animation teams. Here they receive training and uphold an exact competence role in a games or animation film team. In the teams each student has a dedicated position, and is therefore hand picked to fill a specific role matching the students competences. EUCROMA covers two strands – games and animation. At times the strands run in parallel but in other periods they are interwoven as shared processes.
The program takes the students through four training phases:
Phase 01: Joint training and alignment of all competences
In order to establish a common framework and vocabulary between the competencies EUCROMA includes, students investigate both their own skillsets and those of relevant coworkers. The principles for joint universe creation are also introduced in this phase as they provide a practical reference for the knowledge exchange.
Phase 02: Joint production pipeline exercises and workshops
Building upon the knowledge base established in the previous phase, this “hands on” phase trains students in collaboration methods through workshops and exercises. This deepens the students understanding of own and shared processes and enables them to integrate their skills in a shared pipeline.
Phase 03: Parallel competence specific training
Subjects relating directly to the students’ competencies are taught and related to their strand. Universe creation subjects are examined in relation to own competencies and strand specific pipelines. This phase finalizes the previous phases with the creation of the joint universe used in the final productions.
Phase 04: Parallel production of games and animation films
Students work within their strand specific teams to produce a finished computer game or animated movie based on the joint universe created in previous phase. The finished products are showcased to leading industry representatives and evaluated.
The program is build upon the solid formats, extensive networks and long experience of the educational partners who make up the EUCROMA organisation. The Danish DADIU, the National Film School of Denmark, the University of Abertay Dundee, Cologne Games Lab, Film Academy Baden-Württemberg and Budapest University of Theatre, Film and Television, collectively provide the EUCROMA students Europe wide access to specialised teachers, seasoned industry professionals, publishers and funding opportunities.
